Lady Devils rally past Shawnee

CAMDEN — Brookville finished the game Dec. 11 at Preble Shawnee on an 11-3 run to defeat the Arrows 38-35. It was Brookville’s second win while the Arrows remain winless on the campaign.

It was not a pretty game by any means. The two teams combined for 68 turnovers and missed 33 free throws during the game. Brookville committed 33 turnovers and Shawnee had 35 turnovers as the defenses seemed in control throughout the game.

Shawnee was 21 of 41 from the foul line. Brookville was nine of 22. Brookville was 12 of 43 shooting including five for 19 from long distance. The Arrows were seven of 37 overall and zero for four from behind the arc. Shawnee also had only one basket in each of the final three stanzas of play.

Shawnee led 10-8 after the first period of play. The Arrows made nine free throws in the second period to build up a 21-13 lead at halftime.

The Arrows scored the first point in the third frame. Brookville then rattled off ten straight points to take a 23-22 lead. However, the Arrows finished the third period on a run of six straight points to lead 28-23 heading into the final stanza.

Shawnee made a free throw to begin the final period. Then Jordan Oliver of Brookville hit a free throw. Hunter Gardner of the Blue Devils then stole the ball at midcourt and took the ball to the hoop and made a layup.

The Arrows got free a free throw from Eckert and a pair of charity shots from Agee and led the game 32-27 with 2:50 remaining in the game.

Sara Carr of Brookville grabbed a missed shot on the offensive end and fired in a basket with 2:34 remaining in the game. Oliver scored on a drive into the lane with 1:44 remaining and it was a one-point Shawnee lead at 32-31.

Aubrey Unger hit a free throw for the Arrows with 1:38 left and Shawnee led by two at 33-31.

Brookville senior Ashlee Haupt then drained a long three-pointer from the left corner with 1:28 to go and the Blue Devils had snagged the lead 34-33. With 54 seconds left Haupt drained a pair of free throws and Brookville led 36-33.

Agee then made a base line jumper with 40 seconds remaining and it was 36-35. Brookville turned the ball over but the Arrows missed a shot and Brookville got the rebound.

The Blue Devils played keep away with the ball before Haupt was fouled with 3.5 seconds left in the game. Haupt then calmly swished both free throws to give Brookville the 38-35 lead. Shawnee was unable to get a desperation shot off and Brookville had earned their second win of the season.

Shawnee scoring and stats show Agee with 15 points and nine rebounds. Caylee Hatmaker had 10 points, six boards, and five steals. Ashleigh Mondello-Garrett scored five points and had six steals. Addison Sergent-Eckert scored one point. Aubrey Unger had four points, and six steals.

Hunter Gardner added five points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Sara Carr had five pints and five rebounds. Alyssa Lackey scored two points. Abi Stanoikovich added two points and three steals. Megan Luebke snared three rebounds.

Brookville traveled to Monroe and lost 46-32. The Hornets used superior height and strength to take the ball inside and broke open a close game at the half to pull away in the second half for the win.

The quarter scores were nine to nine; Monroe led 25-23 at the half; It was 38-29 Hornets after three periods; and the final of 46-32.

Monroe was led in scoring by Paityn Corthell with 19 points. Ryan Buskirk added 13 and Saffie Weidner 11. The Hornets were 16 of 32 shooting including 13 of 23 on two-point tries.

Brookville made 11 of 38 shots including six of 22 on two point tries. Ashlee Haupt had 18 of the Blue Devils 32 points. Other scorers for the Lady Devils were Megan Luebke and Alyssa Lackey with five points each; and Abi Stanoikovich and Hunter Gardner with two points each.
