Candidates file to appear on March primary ballot

EATON — The deadline for candidates to file petitions to appear on the March 19, 2024, primary election ballot was Wednesday, Dec. 20, and according to Preble County Board of Elections records, Preble County voters will see several contested races play out.

Several seats to appear are uncontested, giving candidates a clear road to the November ballot. Those include:

For State Central Committee: Valerie Sargent Wood, (term begins May 23, 2026;) for Preble County Prosecuting Attorney, Eric Marit, Eaton; for Clerk of Common Pleas Court, incumbent Brionne Reynolds; for Preble County Sheriff, incumbent Michael Simpson; for Preble County Recorder, incumbent Jeanne A. Creech; for Preble County Engineer, incumbent R. Kyle Cross; for Preble County Coroner, incumbent Mark S. Vosler and for Preble County Treasurer, Shannon Chappel of Eaton (term begins Sept. 1, 2025.)

Local contested races include: for Preble County Commissioner term beginning Jan. 2, 2025, Kathy M. Clapp of Eaton, and incumbent commissioner Rachael Vonderhaar of Camden, (Jeffrey R. Poynter of Eaton, who had previously filed, has withdrawn;) for Preble County Commissioner term beginning Jan. 3, 2025, incumbent commissioner Adam Craft of West Alexandria and Jane Marshall of Eaton.

Also seeking to appear on the November ballot for Judge of the Preble County Common Pleas Court are Jacob A. Kovach of New Paris and current Preble County Prosecutor Martin Votel of Eaton.

Voters in Ohio’s 40th district will see two names on the ballot for the State Representative’s spot: incumbent State Rep. Rodney Creech, Republican, of West Alexandria and Democrat Bobbie Arnold, also from West Alexandria.
