EACB in concert March 3

The Eaton Area Community Band will present its winter concert on Sunday, March 3, at 4 p.m. in the Eaton Community Schools Performing Arts Center. The band is made up of 44 adult and student musicians from Eaton, Richmond and the surrounding area, and is directed by Tad Stewart, former director of bands of Eaton Schools. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the PAC. To mark the occasion, the band will perform A Joyous Celebration, the piece that was commissioned for the opening performance of the auditorium in October 2013. It will be conducted by Tracy Phillips, who is also a former director of the Eaton Bands. The concert will include a number of soloists, including Daniel Bell (Eaton class of 2000) who will be singing the Irish national song Danny Boy. The concert is free, as always, but donations will be accepted.

Road/bridge closure

The Preble County Engineer’s Office reports that Camden College Corner Road will close between U.S. 127 and Camden Darrtown Road/Dillman Road for a full bridge replacement beginning Monday, March 4. The road will be closed for approximately 8 weeks (until April 25.) The road will be closed to all through traffic. Emergency personnel will not be permitted. School buses will not be permitted.

Eaton North Maple Street project to begin

The City of Eaton’s 2024 North Maple Street complete reconstruction project is slated to begin on Monday, March 4, and continue for approximately 8 months, according to city officials.For this reason, a construction and roadway closure will be in place from the intersection of North Maple and East Mechanic Street to the intersection of North Maple Street and Lexington Road.North Maple Street will only be open to residents who live in that section, emergency vehicles and school buses.

TCN special meeting

There will be a special meeting of the Tri-County North Local Board of Education on Tuesday, March 5, at 5:30 p.m. in the District Office Conference Room. The purpose of this meeting will be to approve employment of classified exempt personnel and any other business the board considers necessary to conduct. Upon request to the superintendent, the District shall make reasonable accommodations for a disabled person to be able to participate in this activity.

Tornado siren testing in Preble County

Wednesday, March 6, will begin the 2024 tornado siren testing season. Sirens in Preble County are tested on the first Wednesday of each month at noon, weather permitting. In the event of inclement weather, testing will not occur and sirens will be tested the following month.

TCN online kindergarten registration

Tri-County North Local Schools will be holding online kindergarten registration for the 2024-2025 school year through Friday, March 8. Visit the website at www.tcnschools.com and click on the “Student Registration” tab to begin the enrollment process through Final Forms. 2024-2025 kindergartners must be five years old on or before Aug. 1, 2024. The week of March 11, parents will receive an email through Final Forms to sign up for an appointment to bring in required documentation. Documentation drop off will be by appointment the week of March 18-22 and will be held in the TCN District Office. BOE logic and accuracy testing

The Preble County Board of Elections will conduct the March 19, 2024 Primary logic and accuracy testingof the electronic pollbooks on Monday, March 4 and Tuesday, March 5. This testing will also be conducted from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Preble County Courthouse.

Weather Spotter Training scheduled

Weather Spotter Training, free and open to the public, will be held on Monday, March 11, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., at the Preble County Fairgrounds Expo Expansion Center. The training includes storm ingredients, characteristics of severe storms, anatomy of a storm, super-cell storms and rotation, and more. This training is hosted by the Preble County EMA, Darke County EMA, and Wayne County EMA and will be taught by instructors from the National Weather Service Wilmington Office. Mental Health First Aid-Youth Training

PCMHRB is hosting a Youth Mental Health First Aid training on Thursday, March 14. Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) teaches how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders in youth ages 6-18. Parkinson’s exercise class

A new session of Parkinson’s Fit Club exercise class are being held each Wednesday at the Earl Heck Center, 201 N. Main St., Englewood. Classes run from 12:15-1 p.m. These classes are taught by Physical Therapists from Kettering Health’s NeuroRehab and Balance Center and are designed to empower people with Parkinson’s Disease to fight back against the disease with specific exercises to counteract movement challenges experienced by those with Parkinson’s. Classes are tailored for different levels of fitness and Parkinson’s symptoms. All ages and fitness levels are welcome.
