BROOKVILLE — Jeff Davidson has stepped down as the boys basketball coach at Brookville, turning in his resignation last week.

Davidson is the all-time leader in basketball wins in Brookville High School history. Davidson won 209 games in his illustrious career, 61 more than No. 2 on the list Mike Akers.

“It was the best time for my family and I,” stated Davidson. “We had a really good season and there is tremendous talent coming up and I just felt like emotionally and physiologically it was the right time for me. It was a pleasure and honor to lead a program in the Brookville school district. It was awesome.”

Davidson led Brookville to a pair of district championship games in his career and won the SWBL Championship in 2019 in the Southwestern Division, guiding the smallest school in that division to the league crown. Davidson took the head coaching position prior to the 2006-2007 season.

A native of Versailles, he turned down the opportunity to coach at his hometown school several times, demonstrating a loyalty to Brookville and the community he has called home since coming to Brookville.

“Coaching was a complete honor for me,” Davidson continued. “I got into it because of being a three-sport athlete and a competitor and I just wanted to help others. Just being able to go battle with the kids I coached was very satisfying for me.”

Davidson has also been involved in assisting other programs at Brookville including helping gather stats for the football team and being an assistant football coach with Mike Hetrick before taking the varsity head coaching position in basketball.

“I am enjoying being a fan and cheering on our athletes,” stated Davidson when asked about watching his daughter Melina, who is a senior, play softball. “My family has been so supportive over the years. My wife Tina and my daughter Melina have understood the sacrifice of the time necessary it takes to be a head coach.”

Davidson will continue to teach at Brookville.

The search for his replacement has begun. According to school officials the job has been posted.
