Tri-County North routs National Trail

NEW PARIS — Tri-County North’s varsity softball team exploded for 10 runs in the top of the first inning in its season opener Thursday to steamroll its way to a 24-3 victory over National Trail.

The Lady Panthers generated 20 hits. Sophomore Bella Cherry went three for five with a double and a triple, scored three runs and had three RBI. Junior Gracie Hemp went two for four with a triple, a walk and scored three times.

Sophomore Chloe Jackson went two for two with a double, a walk, and scored twice with one RBI. Freshman Mya Pinion went two for two with a double, four RBI and scored three runs.

Junior Kora Lykins went three for four with a double, drew a walk, with one run and three RBI. Senior Hannah Webster went two for three with two walks, two runs and two RBI. Junior Kasidi Daugherty went three for four with one run and one RBI.

Sophomore Jordan Pinion went one for three with one run. Senior Sadie Royer went one for two with a walk, scored twice and drove in two runs. Sophomore Chloe Filbrun went one for one, scored twice and had one RBI.

Jackson, Hemp, Daugherty, and Mya Pinion each had a stolen base.

Daugherty picked up the victory. She pitched five innings, scattered three hits, struck out 10 with one walk and two earned runs. Daugherty threw 51 strikes out of 76 pitches.

Sophomore Morgan House led National Trail going one for two with a pair of RBI. Junior Carley Hamm went one for two and scored one run. Sophomore Summer Stringfield went one for three. Junior Breanna Melling drew a walk and scored one run.

House took the loss getting tagged for 14 hits and 15 earned runs with four walks in two innings of work. Melling pitched three innings allowing six hits with six earned runs with two strike outs and four walks.

Tri-County North is 1-0 both in conference play and overall while National Trail is 0-1 overall and in conference play.
