Lady Blue Devils run rule Bethel

BROOKVILLE — Pitcher Grace Burton limited Bethel to four hits Wednesday and helped her own cause by driving in four runs on two hits to help lift Brookville to a 12-1 non-conference victory in five innings.

The Lady Blue Devils improved to 5-1 overall while Bethel fell to 0-4.

Burton doubled in the fourth inning to drive in two runs and singled in the fifth to score two more base runners. Brookville scored one in the third, six in the fourth and five in the fifth inning.

Melina Davidson drew a two out walk in the third inning and Maya Haydon followed with a ground ball to third that resulted in an error. Davidson scored and Haydon made it all the way to third on the fielding error.

Bethel tied the game in the top of the fourth. Ellie Larkins hit a lead off double to right and scored on a single to right by Karis Hawk.

Brookville took a 7-1 lead in the fourth inning. Isabell Holp led off with a single to left with Lia Viernes coming in to pinch run. Mackenzie Roesser drew a walk and Madisyn Cantrell got hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Jordyn Oliver hit a ground ball to pitcher Adaline Etherington who threw the ball to catcher Karis Hawk to force Viernes out at home. Kara Gardner grounded to second baseman Grace Peirano who threw the ball to the plate to force out Roesser.

Burton belted a two out double to score Cantrell and Oliver with Gardner advancing to third. Davidson reached on an error with Gardner scoring and Burton reaching third. Brianna Abrams came in to run for Burton.

Davidson stole second drawing a throw from Bethel’s catcher that enabled Abrams to steal home. Haydon hit an infield pop fly that got dropped and allowed Davidson to score. Rylan Eagle singled to left to bring Haydon home to give Brookville a 7-1 lead.

The Lady Devils added five more runs in the fifth inning on a walk by Roesser, Oliver reaching on an error, a single by Gardner, a two run single by Burton, an RBI single by Davidson, a walk by Haydon, and a game ending two RBI double by Holp.

Etherington took the loss for Bethel. She pitched four and one-third innings, allowed 12 runs (four earned), on nine hits and four walks. Layla Moore pitched one third of an inning, gave up one hit, one walk and had one strike out.

Holp had four hits in four at bats for Brookville while Gardner and Burton went two for four. Davidson and Eagle both had one hit.

The victory enabled Brookville to bounce back from an 11-1 non-conference loss to Tri-Village. The Lady Patriots took a 2-0 first inning lead, added three more runs in the second and six in the fourth to hand Brookville its first loss of the season.

Tri-Village improved to 2-1 overall while Brookville fell to 4-1.

Elizabeth Poling earned the victory. She pitched five innings, scattered four hits with one earned run, three strike outs and two walks.

The Lady Patriots offense was powered by an RBI double by Emma Greer, a two-run homer by Kiersten Wilcox and a three-run homer by Camryn Osborne.

Rylan Eagle took the loss for Brookville. She pitched one and two-thirds of an inning, got tagged for two hits, four runs (three earned) with three walks and two strike outs. Grace Burton worked the final two and one-third innings, gave up five hits, seven runs (six earned), with three strike outs and two walks.
