Northmont Food Hub holds ribbon cutting ceremony

ENGLEWOOD — A pair of local chefs / entrepreneurs will be sharing space in what is now known as the ‘Northmont Food Hub’ at 322 Union Blvd. next door to JD’s Old Fashioned Frozen Custard.

An official ribbon cutting ceremony for the Northmont Food Hub was held Friday at 2 p.m.

Isiah Davis, owner of ‘The Cookieologist and Kali Muhammad II, owner of Slide Thru, will be operating in the Northmont Food Hub, a space previously occupied by Stone House Sweets Bakery & Coffee, which closed in July after eight years in business.

The Cookieologist and Slide Thru will be connected to JD’s Old Fashioned Frozen Custard by a shared dining space.

Davis, also known as ‘Chef Zay,’ also has other food concepts: ‘Wingdalorian’ (wings and potatoes), and ‘My Kinda Pie’ – pizza pies operating under the parent brand ‘Chef Zay’s Culinary Collective.’ To learn more about each concept visit https://bit.ly/3TQU8tK

“We wanted to be part of the neighborhood and connect with everyone with our two concepts, The Cookieologist and Slide Thru,” Davis said. “One of the things I felt was that there were a lot of food options that were not here locally, so I definitely wanted to contribute to that by adding in the Wingdalorian, which is oven roasted wings, and also My Kinda Pie.

“So, we decided to turn this into an actual food hub, which is multiple concepts inside of this space that we share, and we are just here to produce good quality food for the neighborhood,” Davis added.

“It has been a longtime coming,” Muhammad said. “If you would have asked me a couple years back could I see us in a brick and mortar, I would have said ‘No. You’re crazy.’ We started as a food truck in humble beginnings, so to have a brick and mortar location now and to share that space with another business that has the same goals and same aspirations that we have means a lot.

“We went for the Northmont Food Hub because we wanted to take all those different options that we are hearing about that Northmont is missing, to sort of bring it all into one space,” Muhammad added. “Slide Thru is just starting with sliders and beignets (square shaped pieces of dough that are deep fried and generously sprinkled with confectioners’ sugar) for right now. That’s what we are going to stick to right now and then hopefully move on to other concepts.”

Customers are encouraged to order ahead and pick up their food, which offers faster service. The new Northmont Food Hub will enable customers to have easier access to the products offered by Davis and Muhammad.

Brent Fisher, another local entrepreneur, the new owner of JD’s Old Fashioned Frozen Custard, attended the ribbon cutting ceremony. Fisher also bought Bubble Brush Car Wash immediately behind the food hub. He also owns Melody Pool Swim Club.

Dan and Cindy Gress originally owned JD’s and Bubble Brush.
