Blue Devils win Southwest Division II track meet

TROTWOOD — With 98 points the Brookville boys track team won the Southwest District, Division II track meet held May 16 and 18 at Trotwood-Madison High School.

Eaton placed 6th with 47 points and Preble Shawnee was 7th with 46.

The first four individuals or relay teams in each event in the district tournament qualified for regional competition.

The Devils lost potential points when they dropped the baton on the final exchange in the preliminaries of the 4×200 meter relay and were disqualified when the baton rolled out of their lane.

Renowned Wayne track coach Mike Fernandez was on hand to help run the meet. Fernandez was inducted into the Ohio Association of Track & Cross Coaches in 2017.

After recording the fastest qualifying time in the 110 meter hurdles, Brookville’s Kory Davis placed 2nd in 14.17 seconds. Dai’Vontay Young of Dunbar set a new meet record to take 1st in 13.99.

Davis took 1st place in the 300 hurdles in 38.42 seconds. Jackson Weber (Preble Shawnee) was 6th in 44.07.

Brookville’s Coy Hyre, who is the state co-record holder in the 100 meter dash along with Solomon King of Toledo Central Catholic (10.48 seconds), took 1st place in the 100 at district in 10.67 seconds.

Hyre set a new district record in the 200 meter dash in 21.16 seconds.

Case Roell (Preble Shawnee) placed 3rd in the 1600 meter run in 4:46.77. Logan Wright (Brookville) placed 5th in 4:49.80. Evan Shields (Preble Shawnee) finished 10th in 5:04.39. Nick Laycox (Eaton) finished 11th (5:10.26) and Drew Stammen (Brookville) finished 16th (5:30.54.

Brookville took 1st in the 4×100 relay (Adams, Bench, Davis, Hyre) in 41.97 seconds. Eaton placed 8th in 46.03 (Downs, Kopf, Peach, Sasser).

Lucas Tipton (Brookville) took 1st in the 800 meter run in 2:00.55 while Wes Kitchin (Preble Shawnee) was 2nd in 2:00.83. Evan Pentecost (Brookville) placed 5th in 2:06.41. Jack Richardson (Eaton) was 6th in 2:08.75. Case Roell (Preble Shawnee) placed 7th in 2:14.00.

Christian Seitz (Brookville) placed 5th in the 3200 meter run in 11:24.17. Tanner Davis (Eaton) was 6th in 11:24.79. Michael Fomin (Eaton) placed 8th in 11:47.88. Evan Shields (Preble Shawnee) finished 9th (11:51.47). Chase Puskas (Brookville) was 10th (12:02.78). Alex Meyers (Preble Shawnee) was 12th (12:41.85).

Brookville (Mehr, Moore, Hyre, Adams) won the 4×400 relay in 3:25.30. Preble Shawnee (Mondello-Garrett, Deaton, Weber, Bradley) placed 5th (3:34.13) while Eaton (Peach, Foster, Richardson, Kitchin) placed 6th (3:34.89).

Preble Shawnee (Bradley, Mondello-Garrett, Weber, Roell) placed 2nd in the 4×800 relay in 8:24.84. Eaton (Foster, Peach, Richardson, Kitchin) was 3rd in 8:38.66. Brookville (Tipton, Pentecost, Wright, Ballengee) was 4th in 8:50.81.

Tyler McKee (Preble Shawnee) placed 3rd in high jump (5 feet, 11 inches). Keegan Mehr (Brookville) placed 6th (5 feet, 8 inches). Elijah Rich (Eaton) placed 7th (5 feet, 8 inches).

Xavier Stacy (Brookville) won the shot put at 50 feet, 3 inches. Cooper Shrout (Preble Shawnee) placed 4th (46 feet, 10 inches) and Brody Lynch (Preble Shawnee) placed 5th (44 feet, 5 inches). Devon Rader (Eaton) was 9th (42 feet, 5.5 inches). Chase Hoefler (Eaton) was 16th (37 feet, 2 inches). Garrett Peters (Brookville) was 17th (36 feet, 8.5 inches).

Devon Rader (Eaton) took 1st in the discus at 141 feet, 11 inches. Brody Lynch (Preble Shawnee) placed 4th at 134 feet, 4 inches. Cooper Shrout (Preble Shawnee) placed 6th at 132 feet, 2 inches. Dylan Matlock (Eaton) was 9th at 128 feet, 9 inches. Garrett Peters (Brookville) was 14th at 111 feet, 7 inches. Alex Stacy (Brookville) was 15th at 107 feet.

James Booth (Brookville) finished 9th in the long jump at 18 feet, 6.5 inches. Alex Kidwell (Brookville) was 10th at 18 feet, 2 inches. Jackson Weber (Preble Shawnee) was 14th at 17 feet, 0.75 inches. Clayton Brandenburg (Preble Shawnee) was 15th at 17 feet, 0.5 inches. Wyatt Sasser (Eaton) was 20th at 16 feet, 3.75 inches. Darrius Branham was 21st at 16 feet, 2.25 inches.

Carson Shepherd (Eaton) won the pole vault at 14 feet even. John Nester (Preble Shawnee) was 9th at 9 feet even.

The regional meet will be held Thursday, May 23 at 4 p.m. and Saturday, May 25 at 11 a.m. at Piqua High School.
