PITSBURG — Playing a team for a third time in a season after you’ve already beaten them twice usually makes for a nervous coach.
That was no exception when No. 7 seeded Preble Shawnee met No. 6 Carlisle in the first round of the girls’ Division III sectional tournament at Franklin-Monroe High School on Saturday, Feb. 18.
Although being the lower seed, the Arrows calmed coach Kevin Schaeffer’s nerves by completing the season sweep with a 37-28 win to advance to the second round against No. 8 seed Anna on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 6 p.m.
Anna upset No., 4 Milton-Union 44-40.
Shawnee won the first meeting 46-39 back in December and took the second matchup 56-41 on Jan. 12.
Shawnee, which has won 11 of its last 14 games, jumped out to an 11-2 lead early and never looked back against the Indians.
Nicole Sims scored 12 points while Brenna Woodard collected nine points and eight rebounds for Shawnee. Jenna Lovely and Riane Woodard each added five.
