NEW PARIS — Jaxon Roth from Eaton Middle School and Luke Menke from Twin Valley South Elementary came away as the two winners in their age divisions of the annual Preble County Geography Bee, held Thursday, Feb. 21, at National Trail School.

Other students participating in the countywide event were winners or finalists in their building level Geography Bees. This year’s participants included: Elijah Mihalus and Troy Alfrey of Bruce Elementary (Eaton), Kaiden Webb and Roth of Eaton Middle School, Raegen Holland and Eli Jasinski of National Trail Elementary, Miranda Ott and Chris Knapp of National Trail Middle School, Brody Lynch and Emma Fields of West Elkton Intermediate (Preble Shawnee), Maggie Montgomery and Mason Shrout of Preble Shawnee Middle School, Ian Hopkins and Bailey Quinn of Tri-County North Elementary, Parker McGrath and Breanna Callahan of Tri-County North Middle School, Rhett Emig and Menke of Twin Valley South Elementary and Caleb Goad and Brenton Proctor of Twin Valley South Middle School.

Students completed activities testing their knowledge of states and capitals, state recognition, Ohio and national landmarks, recognition of European countries and Asian islands, and recognition of world leaders.

The winner of the 6-7-8 grade division was Roth, and there was a tie for runner-up among Goad from Twin Valley South Middle School and Webb from Eaton Middle School.

The winner in the 4-5 grade division was Menke, and the runner-up was Emig from Twin Valley South Elementary.

A special “thank you” from the Preble County Educational Service Center goes out to the National Trail School Local District for hosting the event, as well as to Laura Cottingim and Michelle Reynolds from the PCESC for assisting with the event.

“A big thank you also to all building level Geography Bee promoters,” organizers said.

This event was coordinated by Daryl Michael from the Preble County Educational Service Center, and was sponsored by the Preble County Educational Service Center Governing Board.
