PREBLE COUNTY — Throughout the summer, different Farmer’s Markets can be found throughout Preble County. For the 2019 season, there are markets in Eaton, Lakengren, and Lewisburg.
The Eaton Earlybird Farmer’s Market is held on Saturdays between May 11 and Sept. 28. It is open from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Vendors include sellers of meat, produce, bread, baked goods, various crafts, jams, and other goods.
Marcia Glenn with Glenn’s Gardens has set up every week at the Eaton Earlybird Farmer’s Market for the last 15 years.
“We like to provide good food direct to the customer. We don’t like to sell to a store, we sell from the field to the customer,” she said. “I wish we could get more people to come out. We have fresh food, frozen meat, eggs — you can even find baked goods. You will find all sort of variety up here.”
The Bread Lady herself, Steffanie Eller, has set up every week at the Eaton Earlybird Farmer’s Market since last year. She sells fresh baked goods and breads.
“I love to visit everybody who comes through. My husband an I have a small farm, and he had surgery on his shoulder and is laid up a little bit, so this is a good portion of our income,” she said. “This season is a little better than last year. I’ve been selling out. There is fresh produce and local vendors here.”
Irma Ridenour with Irma’s Creations brings baked goods every week to the Eaton Earlybird Farmer’s Market for the last four years.
“You get to see a lot of people and talk with them. All of the other vendors are all very friendly. I think everyone should take a Saturday, come and visit us and see what is available,” she said.
However, the Earlybird Farmer’s Market isn’t the only market you will find in Preble County.
Lakengren’s Farmer’s Market is held Saturdays through the first week of October, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. The market is located in the parking lot right before the front gate of Lakengren, located at 22 Lakengren Drive in Eaton.
The Village of Lewisburg also has a Farmer’s Market, this one held at the Tri-County North parking lot every Monday through Sept. 9 from 5-8 p.m.
