EATON — The Preble County WIC Program is a special supplemental nutrition program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) funded by the US department of Agriculture with the purpose of improving dietary intake during critical times of growth and development. The program improves pregnancy outcomes by providing or referring eligible women to support services necessary for full-term pregnancies; reduces infant mortality by reducing the incidence of low birth weight (infants under 5 ½ pounds are at greater risk of breathing problems, brain injuries and physical abnormalities), and provides infants and children with a healthy start in life by enhancing their dietary intake.
The WIC target population are income eligible, nutritionally at risk:
• Pregnant women
• Breastfeeding women (up to infant’s first birthday)
• Non-breastfeeding postpartum women (up to six months after the birth of an infant or after pregnancy ends)
• Infants.
• Children up to their fifth birthday.
The following benefits are provided to Preble County WIC participants:
• Supplemental nutritious foods
• Nutrition education and counseling by registered dieticians
• Basic health and nutrition screening to help families develop simple nutrition goals.
• Breastfeeding education and support, including a lactation consultant
• Referrals to prenatal care, pediatric health care and other maternal and child health and human service programs.
WIC eligibility is based on household income, family size and other factors. NOTE: An unborn baby counts in the household size. A person who currently receives Medicaid, Food Stamps, or Ohio Works First (OWF) automatically meets the income eligibility criteria for WIC.

Car Seat Program
The Preble County General Health District employs a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician to assist with child safety seat questions and to check your child’s safety seat installation. Checking of seats is on a walk-in basis. Child safety seats are provided by the Ohio Buckles Buckeyes Program (OBB). Families must be WIC eligible to receive a car seat at no cost.
