Two jailed on drug charges

PREBLE COUNTY— Two Preble County residents were arrested Sunday evening, July 26, on charges stemming from a search warrant at an apartment on U.S. 35 East.

According to Sheriff Mike Simpson, deputies executed a search warrant Sunday at 3266 U.S. 35 East, Apartment C, between Eaton and West Alexandria during an investigation after a resident of the apartment building reported a “bullet had been fired and came through a wall in the apartment.”

Simpson reported, deputies had to force entry into the apartment after the two occupants denied them entry. While in the apartment on the initial search warrant, deputies developed probable cause to secure a second, drug-related search warrant for the same apartment.

According to Simpson, deputies found evidence that methamphetamine was being manufactured inside the apartment. Officials located multiple items and chemicals used in the production of methamphetamine.

“These items included three cylinders that contained anhydrous ammonia, lithium metal, solvents, and pseudoephedrine tablets,” Simpson reported. Suspected methamphetamine (finished product) was also located, he noted.

Deputies located three firearms in the apartment as well, Simpson said in a press release on Monday, July 27.

Technicians from the Sheriff’s Office rendered chemicals safe that were found on scene. Deputies were assisted on scene by the West Alexandria Police, Fire & EMS.

PCSO Deputies arrested Needius Levi Grubb, 30, and Angela Allen, 33, who lived in the apartment. Both were lodged in the Preble County Jail at press time, on preliminary charges including: illegal manufacture of drugs, 1st degree felony; illegal assembly of chemicals to manufacture drugs, 2nd degree felony; possession of drugs, 5th degree felony; endangering children, 4th degree felony and possession of drug paraphernalia, a 4th degree misdemeanor.

The child endangering charges stem from the fact children reside within an apartment within the same building where the operation was located.

According to Simpson, the investigation has been forwarded to the Preble County Prosecutor’s Office for review and filing of formal charges.

Grubb was currently out on bond on a 2014 case in Preble County Common Pleas Court where he was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, according to Simpson.
