EATON — Preble County Sheriff’s Captain Brad Moore is now at home recovering from several lacerations and a hand injury, according to Preble County Sheriff Mike Simpson, after Moore was hurt in a scary incident involving a semi-trailer and train on Friday, Jan. 8.
According to reports, around 3:30 p.m. Moore responded to an accident at the intersection of U.S. 35 and West Lexington Road near the Henny Penny Corporation.
Nearly an hour later, as Moore was directing traffic from the earlier accident, a semi truck and trailer he waved across the railroad became stuck, or hesitated for an unknown reason, Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers reported.
The trailer of the semi was struck by an oncoming train, and the trailer then struck Moore causing the PCSO captain to travel an estimated 40 feet through the air.
Moore was initially taken to the Preble County Kettering Emergency Room before being transferred to a different hospital, according to officials.
The accident is still under investigation according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
No other injuries were reported in the incident.
Simpson said Moore is in “good spirits” after being released from the hospital.
