TROY — Twin Valley South sent two wrestlers to the Division III District Tournament at Hobart Arena in Troy on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 26-27
Both Caleb Worley (113) and Skyler Straszheim (182) only lasted through Friday, however, as both lost in their first two matches to end their season.
Worley fell in a major decision to start off the tournament before losing via technical fall in the first round of the consolation bracket.
Straszheim faced a similar fate when he lost via technical fall in the first round before going out on a major decision in the consolation bracket.
The two wrestlers advanced to the district tournament after a strong showing in the sectionals.
Last weekend, Worley locked up the third place finish in the sectional after sticking his opponent in 54 seconds, while Straszeim won a much closer contest, winning a 10-7 decision.
On his way to the third place match, Worley pinned Kage Worley from Preble Shawnee in 2:33 before falling in the semifinal round. In the consolation semis, he won a 4-1 decision against Bethel-Tate to earn him a guaranteed trip to the district tournament.
Straszheim opened the tournament with a 16-7 major decision over Raymond Hahn from Purcell Marian. In the ensuing round, he was pinned by Shawnee’s Kolton Dillion, sending him to the consolation bracket. In that bracket, Straszheim earned a second period pin before facing off against Hahn once again in the third place round.
Straszheim is a freshman and Worley is a junior, so both should be back for another crack at the state meet next season.
