Unemployment rates released for July

OHIO — Ohio’s unemployment rate for July was 4.8, according to a recent release from the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services. This was lower than the U.S. rate of 5.1 percent.

Preble County came in at 4.2 percent, while Butler sat at 4.4 percent, according to the report.

Among the state’s 88 counties, the preliminary July unemployment rates ranged from a low of 3.1 percent in Mercer County to a high of 9.9 percent in Monroe County. From June, unemployment rates decreased in 67 counties, according to state officials, increased in eight counties, and did not chanege in 13 counties.

Five counties had unemployment rates at or below 3.5 percent in July. Counties with the lowest rates, other than Mercer, were Delaware at 3.4 percent, and Hancock, Holmes and Putnam at 3.5 percent.

Four counties had unemployment rates at or above 7.5 percent in July. The counties with the highest rates, other than Monroe, included Meigs, 7.9 percent; Jefferson, 7.8 percent and Noble, 7.5 percent.
