Eaton no-hits Valley View

EATON — Annika Gels and Erica Wilkinson combined to throw a no-hitter against Valley View, as Eaton’s softball team improved to 12-2 on the season with a 5-0 win on Wednesday, April 17.

Eaton took a perfect game into the seventh inning, before a fielding error allowed the Spartans lone base runner to reach base.

It’s the third no-hitter or perfect game in the past two seasons for Eaton. Last year, Gels tossed a perfect game and a no-hitter on back-to-back days against Oakwood.

Gels, a senior, pitched a perfect five innings and struck out eight before being releived in the sixth.

Wilkinson, a sophomore, pitched the final two innings and struck out three, including the final out of the game.

Eaton got things started in the first inning as Lexi Miller singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring Emily Dungan, who led the inning off with a single and Claire Sorrell, who was a courtesy runner for Gels, who also singled.

Eaton extended its lead to 4-0 after four innings. Gels led off with a single. Senior Becca Mowen followed with a home run to left field, scoring Claire Sorrell, who was running for Gels.

In the fifth, Alysa Sorrell homered to left to give the Eagles a 5-0 lead.

Eaton totaled 11 hits for the game. Emily Dungan (three), Alysa Sorrell, Miller, and Gels each managed multiple hits.

Becca Mowen had the hot hand on Tuesday, tallying four hits and driving in three runs leading Eaton to a 9-1 victory over Madison. Mowen tripled in the first, singled in the third, doubled in the fourth, and doubled in the seventh.

Miller added a pair of hits and drove in five runs.

Eaton got things started in the first inning when Mowen tripled scoring Dungan.

Madison evened things up at one in the bottom of the first inning when Taylor Johnson singled on a 2-2 count, scoring a run.

The Eagles pulled away for good with two runs in the third inning. Mowen singled scoring a run and Miller hit into a fielder’s choice, scoring another.

Eaton notched three runs in the fourth inning as Mowen, Miller, and Carsyn Lammers, all drove in runs in the frame.

Eaton scored another run in the sixth and two more in the seventh.

Gels collected the win. She lasted seven innings, allowing five hits and one run while striking out 12 and walking one.

Eaton totaled 11 hits in the game. Mowen and Miller each collected multiple hits. Mowen went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead Eaton E

Madison racked up five hits. Jenna O’Hair and Johnson all managed multiple hits for Madison.

Eaton (12-2, 6-2 SWBL Southwestern) was scheduled to host league-leader Monroe on Monday, April 22. The Eagles will visit Monroe on Wednesday, before hosting National Trail on Friday and Northmont on Saturday for a doubleheader. Game one against Northmont in set for an 11 a.m. start time.
