EATON — Local manufacturer representative Remagen Inc. has been acquired by Cleveland-based foodservice equipment provider Kappus, effective Saturday, May 1.
According to a press release, the acquisition of Remagen broadens Kappus’ sales and service territory and adds key brand Henny Penny, among others, to its product portfolio.
“As both Kappus and Remagen are long-standing leaders in our respective markets, we believe joining our two organizations enables us to better serve our customers’ rapidly changing needs,” Kappus President John Kappus said. “The combined business is well-positioned to deliver enhanced value through complementary, best-in-class products; an extensive service network; and enhanced systems.”
As part of the acquisition, which includes Remagen’s assets and operations as well as their territory that reaches Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and Michigan, Remagen will now operate as “Remagen Food Service Solutions a Kappus Company.” The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
“After 60 plus years in Preble County, Jean [Tuggle] and I have decided to retire,” Remagen President and Owner John Tuggle said. “We sold to Kappus Company out of Cleveland. [We’re] very encouraged that the name Remagen will stay the same.”
Family owned and operated for over 70 years, Kappus sells and services major brands including Henny Penny, Bravo, Taylor and Flavor Burst.
“We are proud to join forces with Kappus as they align closely with our mission and core values,” Tuggle said. “Remagen customers will benefit greatly from Kappus’ shared view on delivering excellent customer value.”
Kappus reached out to Remagen in October to discuss an acquisition and, according to Tuggle, and he then knew it was time to retire.
“It’s a positive situation, and it’s the time for us to retire, Jean and I,” he said. “It’s the best possible scenario that could happen.”
Remagen was founded in 1961 by Richard H. Tuggle as the St. Clair Supply Company when he sold janitorial supplies and implemented a custodial cleaning service, named after local Fort St. Clair.
John Tuggle assumed the position of president in 1972, having been involved in the business since its beginning, and took over the family-owned operation during Richard’s long-term illness.
The contract cleaning and cleaning supply companies were both sold over the years so Remagen could focus on the foodservice business, and John Tuggle also updated the name and logo to what they are today.
Remagen celebrated 60 years in business in 2020.
