PREBLE COUNTY — Fire crews across Preble County found themselves dealing with several serious residential fires in the span of three days last week.

House fire in New Paris

Officials are investigating a reportedly fatal house fire in New Paris after fire crews were called and arrived to find a home in the 300 block of West Main Street in the village engulfed in fire early Friday morning, Jan. 21, according to initial reports.

The call for the fire at the two-story home came in at approximately 4:30 a.m. Friday, according to reports.

Other information regarding the cause of the fire, who was in the residence when it occurred, etc., was unavailable at press time. Watch for additional information when it becomes available.

Village South Apartments damaged in fire

According to initial reports, eight families were left displaced after a fire at the Village South Apartment complex off Franklin Street in Eaton on Saturday evening, Jan. 22.

Published reports say EFD was called to the scene due to a stove fire, and upon arrival, fire personnel found heavy smoke and flames.

No one was injured in the fire, according to reports.

West Alexandria home a total loss

A West Alexandria family was displaced following a house fire in the village last week. The home was a complete loss.

According to information released by the West Alexandria Fire Department in a Facebook post, on Thursday evening, Jan. 20, WAFD was dispatched to the reported house fire in town. “When crews arrived on scene they encountered fire in the basement. Due to the age of this residence and the structure type, the fire quickly found its way to the attic and fire spread throughout the whole house,” the post noted.

Assistance was called in from multiple fire departments, according to officials, including units from Lewisburg, the City of Eaton, Gratis, Farmersville, and both West Alexandria EMS medic units.

“Additionally West Alexandra Police Department, the West Alexandria Street Department, and our Preble County 9-1-1 dispatchers all provided assistance to this incident and we are very grateful for them all,” WAFD officials noted.

No injuries occurred and the residents got out safely, according to officials.
