Winter weather hits county

PREBLE COUNTY — Despite some forecasts calling for more, wet snow fell across the area early Wednesday morning, Jan. 25, leaving at least three inches of frozen precipitation before a switch over to rain.

Preble County Sheriff Mike Simpson issued a Level 1 snow at 5:30 a.m. and subsequently canceled it at 1:35 p.m. Schools across the county closed for the day.

Future forecasts are calling for accumulating snow in the next couple weeks, according to the National Weather Service at Wilmington, beginning next Tuesday into Wednesday.

Friday evening, Jan. 27, could see some snow showers, with little accumulation expected.

Saturday, Jan. 28, is expected to be mostly cloudy with a high near 41 degrees and a low around 36 degrees. Rain (40 percent chance) is expected after 1 a.m.

Sunday is forecast to be cloudy with a high near 39 degrees, with a 50 percent chance of precipitation; 30 percent chance of rain and snow mix is expected Sunday night, with a low temperature around 27 degrees.

Monday, Jan. 30, is expected to be mostly cloudy, with a high near 33 and a low near 22.

NWS is calling for a 30 percent chance of snow during the day on Tuesday, Jan. 31, and a 50 percent chance of rain and snow on Tuesday evening.

Wednesday, Feb. 1, brings with it another 30 percent chance of snow according to NWS forecasts at press time.
