Arrows earn No. 2 seed in upcoming sectional

PREBLE COUNTY — The Ohio High School Athletic Association postseason boys basketball tournament is about to get underway, with all roads leading to the state tournament at the University of Dayton Arena in March. The boys statewide tournament draw was held Sunday, Feb. 5, with sectional tournaments getting underway, Monday, Feb. 13.

The girls statewide tournament draw was last Sunday, Jan. 29. The girls sectional tournament began Monday, Feb. 6.

Preble Shawnee’s boys (17-3, 10-0 WOAC), currently ranked No. 10 in the state, earned the second seed in the Division III Southwest District North draw and will play in the North 1 upper bracket.

Miami East (19-2) is the No. 1 seed, Tri-Village (15-5) is the No. 3 seed and Carlisle (16-3) is the No. 4 seed.

The Arrows received a first round bye and will play the winner of No. 12 West Liberty-Salem (11-9) and No. 16 Greenon (6-14) game in the sectional final on Thursday, Feb. 23 at Northmont High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The winner will play in the district semifinal against either No. 7 Versailles (10-9), No. 10 Milton-Union (11-10) or No. 15 Valley View (5-15) on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 1 p.m. at Northmont High School.

Also in Division III, National Trail (3-17) is the No. 18 seed and will take on Miami East in the first round of the North 3 lower bracket on Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. at Vandalia-Bulter High School. The winner will play either No. 17 Springfield Northeastern (7-12) or No. 14 Stivers (4-15) on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the sectional final.

The district semifinal will be held on Friday, Feb. 24 against either Carlisle, No. 11 Indian Lake (11-9) or No. 13 Anna (7-14).

In Division II, Eaton (7-12) earned the No. 18 seed and will get a rematch with fellow Southwestern Buckeye League foe Bellbrook (11-9), the No. 10 seed, in the North 3 upper bracket at Springfield High School on Friday, Feb. 17 at 5:30 p.m. Bellbrook won the earlier matchup on Dec. 6, 75-55.

The winner will meet either No. 3 Alter (13-7) or No. 20 Thurgood Marshall (6-15) in the sectional final on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 5:30 p.m. The district semifinal is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 24 to be played against either No. 13 Kenton Ridge (10-9), No. 9 Urbana (13-6), No. 17 Graham (9-12) or No. 5 Meadowdale (13-5).

Chaminade Julienne (15-6) is the top seed, with Dunbar (15-6) coming in at No. 2 and Tippecanoe (18-2) being the fourth seed in the 23-team field.

In Division IV, Twin Valley South (5-15) is the No. 9 seed and Tri-County North (1-17) is the No. 12 seed. Both teams will compete in the Troy 1 sectional.

North will take on top-seed Troy Christian (18-3) in an upper bracket first round game on Thursday, Feb. 16 at 6 p.m. at Troy High School with the winner to play No. 11 Miami Valley (4-13) in the sectional final on Tuesday, Feb. 21.

In the lower bracket, South will take on No. 4 Dayton Christian (12-8) in a first round game on Friday, Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m. The winner will play either No. 5 Southeastern (9-12) or No. 8 Emmanuel Christian (6-13) on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m.

The Troy 1 district semifinal will be held Friday, Feb.24 at 6 p.m.

Cedarville (17-4) is the No. 2 seed and Catholic Central (14-7) is the No. 3 seed. Both will be in the Troy 2 bracket.

In girls tournament play, Eaton lost in the first round of the Division II sectional at Tecumseh to Greenon 72-64 in overtime on Wednesday, Feb. 8.

Preble Shawnee will open tournament play on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 12:30 p.m. against Springfield Northwestern at Covington High School.

Tri-County North will play Springfield Catholic Central on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 6:30 p.m. at Versailles. The winner will play National Trail on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 12:30 p.m.

Twin Valley South will play either Tri-Village or Yellow Springs on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 11 a.m. at Versailles.

Tickets for sectional and district tournament games are $6 for students and $8 for adults. Tickets for regional tournament games are $8 for students and $10 for adults. All tickets must be purchased in advance at www.OHSAA.org/tickets.
