PSWCD hosting winter forestry hike

EATON — Even though our trees are bare for the season, they still have an amazing story to tell about our forests.

Mark your calendars for this fun and free event in the woods on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 10 a.m. Preble Soil and Water Conservation District’s Savannah Ballweg will be leading a hike through Preble County Historical Society’s Nature Reserve located at 7693 Swartsel Road in Eaton.

Participants will learn how to identify local woodland species, and what techniques these plants use to survive winter year after year. Hikers will also explore the dynamics of Southwest Ohio’s forests over recent generations, as well as the region’s ancient natural history.

Binoculars are optional, but if you have a pair consider bringing them along. RSVP is not required, and the event will be held rain, snow, or shine. For more information, call 937-456-5159.
