EATON — Coming off its best season in more than three decades, Eaton’s baseball team will be seeking to keep that momentum going.

The Eagles finished last season with a school record 21 wins en route to winning league, sectional and district championships before falling in the regional semifinals.

Eaton brings back a core group which contributed to that success, but second year coach Bob Ebright knows his team will need to stay focused each time it takes the field to replicate last season.

“Our league is going to be extremely competitive; each team has gotten better from last year. It will be important for us to show up each game focused and be prepared to compete for 7 innings,” Ebright sad.

The Eagles returns its top three pitchers in senior Brady Rice, senior Carson Brower and senior Reid Tinstman, along with starting shortstop Brock Ebright.

Also returning is junior third baseman JT Gels and outfielder Gavin Winings.

Last season Rice batted .349 with 12 doubles, a triple, three home runs and had 33 RBIs. On the mound, the 6-4 right-hander, who is undecided on his college choice, was 7-3 with a 1.21 earned run average with 104 strikeouts, while allowing only seven walks.

Brower, a lefty, is Bellarmine commit who was 7-0 with two saves and a 2.9 ERA with 40 strike outs and 15 walks, last season.

Tinstman, who will see time at first base as well as on the mound, is an Adrian commit who batted .333 with seven doubles, a home run with 24 RBIs and 15 runs scored last season. On the mound, the 5-10 lefty was 1-1 with a 2.26 ERA. He had 33 strike outs with 46 walks last season.

Brock Ebright will anchor the infield at shortstop. He is a Rose-Hulman Institute-football commit, who batted .378 with 10 doubles, 8 RBIs, 33 runs scored and 23 stolen bases last season. On the mound, he was 1-1, with a save and a 2.5 ERA.

Gels will get the nod a third. The 5-11 junior batted .305 with six doubles and 13 RBIs last season.

Gavin Winings, a sophomore will get the start in center.

Trevor Davis will be at second, while Dillon Jerdon and Lucas Abner will see time in left and Garrett Cole and Xavier Mathews will man right field.

Ty Cramer will be behind the plate.

Coach Ebright said Coles, Gels, Jerdon, Winings and Mathews could also see time on the mound.

Coach Ebright said his team is working to get back to full strength.

“It is important for us to get healthy and stay healthy throughout the season. We have had a few injuries that are working themselves back to full strength,” he said.

The Eagles were scheduled to begin the season on Tuesday, March 28 at Preble Shawnee. They will visit Middletown Madison on Wednesday, go to Versailles on Thursday and play Middletown Madion Friday at Wright State University.
