Planners approve portable storage unit

BROOKVILLE — Planning commission approved a special use request to allow a remodeling company to place a portable on-demand storage unit in the driveway of a Terri Drive residence while work is taking place to the house.

“The property has suffered extensive water damage and will take several months to complete,” Brookville Law Director Rod Stephan told planning commission.

Stephan said Atlas Restoration and Remodeling Company, of Dayton, plans to use the storage unit to store furnishings and other household items while work is being done to remodel the house.

Stephan indicated the restoration work will take several months to complete.

“Under section 1157.09, the zoning officer may approve a temporary permit for 30 days for the portable on-demand storage unit,” Stephan said.

Stephan added planning commission may extend the approved time for the permit beyond the 30 days if a request is made to do so.

“It is requested that planning commission approve extension of the permit to June 15,” Stephan said.

“If I remember right, years ago when we put this into effect, we took this under consideration when circumstances might warrant that we would have to do this,” mayor Chuck Letner said to Stephan.

“Yes. This additional time is needed because of the extensive repairs that need to be made to the property,” Stephan replied.

“From talking with the contractor, it’s very unlikely they are going to complete the work in 30 days because of the amount of work and the uncertainty of when certain materials, such as carpet, will be delivered for the project,” Stephan added.

Councilmember Curt Schreier asked if the neighbors have to be notified the storage unit is going to be placed on the property.

Stephan replied no notification is required.

In other matters, Brookville council, on the recommendation of planning commission, approved a record plan entitled the Duncan Plat that establishes a minor subdivision located at 333 Maple St.

According to law director Rod Stephan, the record plan combines lot 502, part-lots 503 and 563 and part of a vacated alley into a single new lot.
