Northmont competes in Wayne Warrior Relays

HUBER HEIGHTS — On a day that began overcast and slightly cool Tuesday saw temperatures slowly climb to the mid-70s in time for the start of the Wayne Warrior Relays.

A total of 32 teams participated in the annual meet.

Northmont’s girls team placed 5th out 15 with 47.25 points without the service of its top three athletes, Abby Drosdak, Nadiyah Jacobs and Kayley Underwood.

“This team keeps impressing me with quality performances,” said Northmont girls coach Joe Barnes. “We just missed 3rd place by a few points and one of the leading reasons we are competitive is the 4×100 relay team of Julianna Gunn, Iyanna Thompson-Carson, Jaida Garrett, and Raylin Turner putting down an exceptional time this early in the season.

“It has been a long while since we have had a competitive 4×100 team,” Barnes noted. “The 4×200 team is also looking great this early in the season and that is without Nadiya and Kaley who are usually our top two runners in that relay.

“However it’s not just the 4×1 and 4×200 teams that did well tonight but all our relays did great tonight,” Barnes added. “I am looking forward to seeing what this team can do come postseason. This could be a very exciting year for the Northmont Girls Track and Field Team.”

The boys team placed 6th out of 17.

“Once again the Northmont boys track team excelled at the Wayne relays,” said Northmont coach Tony Broering. “The team was led by seniors Nigel Glover and Jae Grigsby who both ran on the 4×100 and the sprint relay.”
