Camden approves military tribute banners

CAMDEN — During a Thursday, April 6, Camden Village Council meeting, council met with Shannon Steele of Camden Comeback to discuss hanging military banners around the village.

“We would like to do a military tribute banner program in the village — it would consist by putting four-by-two banners on existing wooden polls on Main and Central Avenue,” Steele said.

Steele added, Camden Comeback would request village assistance in marking available polls, as well as hanging said banners.

“We would try to make this one time, yearly. Hang all the banners at one time and remove them all at one time. We would like mid-May through Labor Day,” she said.

Steele noted, banners will arrive late in 2023, thus missing an early May deadline. Regardless, Camden Comeback intends to have them hung when they arrive.

Council voted unanimously in favor of and is willing to provide the required assistance in mounting the banners.

In other business:

•Council accepted the resignation of Village Fiscal Officer Becky Wilson, after more than 20 years of service.

“My employment with the village would have been 21 years in June,” said Wilson. Wilson said she is nearing retirement and would have remained with the village, but due to “changes” felt compelled to fulfil her remaining years in the workforce elsewhere.

•Council announced Camden Spring Cleaning will begin May 8, and end May 12.

Camden Village Council meetings are public meetings held on the first and third Thursday of each month, at 7 p.m. at Camden Town Hall.
