Camden Comeback hosts open forum

CAMDEN — Camden Comeback sponsored an open forum for the community, hosted by Miami University senior students majoring in urban planning, Thursday, April 6.

Held at the Dover in the village, the “re-Envision Camden” forum was aimed at discovering from Camden residents what business and community assets they would like to see added in the future.

For one semester, the seniors will be assisting village officials to develop a comprehensive, future land use development plan. Included in this plan are such things as infrastructure, economic development, housing, parks, and community identity.

The students joined attendees at their tables to discuss said themes to gather feedback for the progression of the plan. According to attending residents, Camden is in need of industry-led business, economic development, parks, and town branding like themes and slogans.

Residents agreed Camden is in need of places to gather, such as cafes, restaurants and coffee shops. Many residents expressed their opposition to chain businesses, opting instead for locally owned and operated establishments.

The Miami seniors will continue to work alongside both Camden Comeback representatives and village officials during their ongoing program.
