EATON — The Preble County Development Partnership announced last week the awarding of four Civic Development Grants to local organizations.

With funding provided by the Preble County Commissioners, the PCDP’s Civic Development Program seeks to offset the negative impacts the COVID 19 pandemic had on tourism, and attendance at local festivals and events.

The purpose of the Preble County Development Partnership Civic Development Program is to:

•Help develop or bolster destination assets and the visitor experience in Preble County driving visitation, overnight stays, and increased visitor spending to area communities.

•Enhance the “liveability” of the area by strengthening Preble County’s destination assets.

•Support and encourage collaboration within Preble County communities.

•Assist local and regional organizations in need of financial assistance for new or improved projects that are in line with the PCDP mission.

Awards in the amount of $5,000 each have been granted to the following organizations:

•Downtown Eaton, Inc. — funds will be applied to event production and marketing to improve the quality of events and content. Downtown Eaton, Inc. works to sustain and revitalize the downtown district for continued growth and tourist, residential and business attraction.

•Preble County Historical Society — funds will help support the newly created “Discover Preble County” historic treasure hunt event. This event will take participants to 30 stops around the county including businesses, parks, covered bridges, and other historic sites.

•Preble County Chamber of Commerce — funds will help support the Business Expo, which showcases a wide variety of businesses, nonprofits, service groups and local organizations. The Preble County Chamber of Commerce is the leader of and catalyst for plans, strategies, programs and services that promote a favorable business climate, improve the quality of life, and support the orderly growth and development of Preble County.

•Preble County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau — funds will support upgrading the Bureau’s website to be more dynamic, interactive and responsive. The website provides a central location for information on community events, lodging, entertainment and social spaces.

The mission of the Preble County Development Partnership is to advance, encourage, and promote the industrial, commercial and civic development of Preble County. The PCDP is dedicated to making sure that all local economic growth promotes the quality of life and opportunities for our Preble County communities.
