BROOKVILLE — The Brookville Baseball Club season kicked off Saturday, April 29.

The season began with the annual opening day parade that passed through the city from Carr Drive to Golden Gate Park, located off East Upper Lewisburg Road.

Opening ceremonies included the singing of the National Anthem and the ceremonial first pitch of the season delivered by Brookville Local Schools Superintendent Jason Wood.

A donation of $3,000 to the BBC from the Bryston Zane Keating Memorial Fund was announced.

The BPC received the donation in thanks for allowing the organization’s annual Memorial Angel in the Outfield Wiffle Ball tournament to be held at the BBC’s facilities in Golden Gate Park each year.

Keating died July 4, 2019 at the age of 8 in a four-wheel drive off-road vehicle accident in West Virginia.

Keating was a student in the Valley View Local School District in Germantown.

He enjoyed playing baseball and soccer and was involved in 4-H.

A total of $25,000 was recently donated from the Keating Memorial Fund to the Valley View Primary School Parent Teacher Organization to be used to help build a new basketball court and playground in Keating’s honor at the new school.

The Keating Memorial Fund recently joined the Dayton Foundation.

A scholarship is being awarded to a Valley View High School senior boy and girl who embody the characteristics Keating displayed both on and off the playing field.

The BBC dedicated a bench in honor of Keating as a reminder “to be bold, be brave, be kind always.”

The bench is located at the BBC concession stand.
