Brookville softball team defeats Madison

BROOKVILLE — The Lady Devils fastpitch softball team pounded out 16 hits Thursday to score a big 9-5 league victory against Middletown Madison.

Madison took a 3-0 first inning lead but Brookville scored two runs in the home half of the first and another run in the second to knot the score.

The Lady Mohawks scored one run the top of the third with Brookville getting four runs in the bottom of the inning and two more in the fifth to secure the win.

Melina Davidson went 2-for-4 with a home run and a double for one run and one RBI. Jordyn Oliver went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, scored twice with two RBIs. Madisyn Cantrell went 2-for-3 with a double, one run and three RBIs.

Makenzie Roesser went 2-for-3 with a double, one run and two RBIs. Maya Haydon went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Kara Gardner went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Isabelle Holp went 2-for-4 and Grace Burton went 1-for-4 with one run. Jolie Bitorff scored twice.

Burton pitched six innings, gave up 10 hits, four earned runs with two walks and six strikeouts. Haydon pitched one inning, surrendered no hits, got tagged for one earned run with two walks.

Abigail Phelps went 3-for-4 for Madison with one run and one RBI. Savannah Young went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Samantha Swartz went 2-for-4 with one run. Allyson Hudek went 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

Ellie Byrd went 1-for-4 with one RBI. Addison Kelly went 1-for-4. Baylee Constance went the distance in the pitcher’s circle for the Lady Mohawks getting tagged for 16 hits and eight earned runs.

With the victory Brookville improved to 4-5 in league play and 9-11 overall. Madison fell to 7-3 in the SWBL and 13-4 overall.
