CLAYTON — By splitting matches against two conference opponents and a victory over Milton-Union the Northmont girls tennis team pushed its record to 14-5 overall with the final week of regular season play coming up.
Monday the Lady Bolts scored a 4-1 victory over Miamisburg to improve to 3-2 in the Greater Western Ohio Conference and 13-4 overall.
“The girls won one of their biggest matches of the year,” said Northmont coach Joe Haupt.
Miamisburg lone victory came at first singles where Sophie Jovanov defeated Lily Braswell 6-2, 6-2.
Northmont swept the remaining matches. At second singles Erin Kelsey scored a 2-6, 7-5, 11-9 victory over Grace Sundermann.
At third singles Tyler Buxton defeated Jada Harbut 6-3, 6-3.
Kennedi Robinson and Makayla Hibbard scored a 6-1, 7-5 victory at first doubles against Leah Collier and Fedora Bodkin.
Second doubles saw Bridget Scranton and Addison Wilson defeat Ashika Desai and Siya Shah 6-0, 6-2.
In JV action Ashley Weiss and Hailey Wheeler both won their singles matches.
The victory put Northmont in a three-way tie for third place in the conference with Miamisburg and Beavercreek.
In one of the best matches of the year Tuesday, the 5th ranked Lady Bolts lost a 3-2 heartbreaker to 3rd ranked Beavercreek.
“Both teams played great tennis and the overall match came down to a third set tie breaker,” Haupt said.
1st singles – Lily Braswell (N) defeated Kenna Ruggles (B) 6-4, 6-4.
2nd singles – Victoria Contreras (B) defeated Erin Kelsey (N) 6-1, 6-0.
3rd singles – Tyler Buxton (N) defeated Marcella Minehart (B) 7-5, 6-0.
1st doubles – Abby Hann and Reilly Franke (B) defeated Makayla Hibbard and Kennedi Robinson (N) 4-6, 7-5, 7-6.
2nd doubles – Nicole Yamada and Natalie Rickabaugh (B) defeated Bridget Scranton and Addison Wilson (N) 6-2, 6-0.
Wednesday the Lady Bolts scored a 3-2 win over Milton-Union, the No. 6 ranked Division II team in the Miami Valley.
At first singles Shannon Brumbaugh (Milton-Union) defeated Lily Braswell 6-0, 6-1.
In second singles play Ellie Coate (Milton-Union) scored a 6-1, 4-6, 10-4 victory over Erin Kelsey.
Third singles action saw Tyler Buxton (Northmont) defeat Violet Hess in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.
At first doubles Kennedi Robinson and Makayla Hibbard (Northmont) scored a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Aubrey Trentier and Peyton Henderson.
In second doubles play Bridget Scranton and Addison Wilson (Northmont) defeated Grace Ammon and Penelope Bobic 7-5, 6-1.
Ashley Weiss and Hailey Wheeler both won singles matches in JV play.
Northmont will conclude regular season play with matches at home vs. Carroll on Monday, against Springfield on Tuesday and Carlisle on Thursday.
