Arrows, Eagles still in title contention

PREBLE COUNTY — With just three weeks left in the volleyball season Eaton and Preble Shawnee remain in the hunt to win their respective league titles.

Last week Eaton went 2-1 but both wins were SWBL Buckeye Division matches, which kept the Eagles one game behind division leader Valley View.

Eaton and Valley View are scheduled to play Thursday, Sept. 28.

The Eagles opened last week with a three-set loss to visiting Bellbrook on Monday, Sept. 18. Eaton fell 25-21, 25-19, 26-24.

On Tuesday, Eaton rolled to a 25-8, 25-6, 25-15 over Middletown Madison. On Thursday, the Eagles won their 20th straight match over Brookville, winning in four sets 21-25, 25-7, 27-25, 25-20.

Eaton (10-5, 7-1 SWBL Buckeye) was scheduled to host Oakwood on Tuesday, Sept. 26 and travel to Valley View on Thursday.

Preble Shawnee moved into sole possession of first place in the WOAC with wins over Tri-County North last week. The Arrows lone loss last week came in a non-league game against Brookville.

The Arrows fell to the Blue Devils 25-22, 28-26, 21-25, 23-25, 15-8 on Monday.

On Tuesday, Shawnee cruised past host TCN in straight sets 25-12, 25-21, 25-13 on Tuesday, then defeated visiting Bradford on Thursday, 25-14, 25-17-25-11.

The Arrows (9-5, 6-1 WOAC) were scheduled to play at Twin Valley South on Tuesday. They will also travel to Ansonia on Thursday and Jamestown Greeneview on Saturday.

National Trail evened it record at 7-7 overall and 3-3 in the WOAC with wins over Twin Valley South and Franklin last week.

The Blazers knocked off South in four sets 23-25, 25-14, 25-10, 25-13 on Tuesday then defeated Franklin, also in four sets, 25-17, 19-25, 25-16, 26-24 on Saturday,

Trail was scheduled to play at Tri-Village on Monday, Sept. 25 and host Middletown Madison on Tuesday. They will close out the week hosting Dixie on Thursday.

In addition to its loss to Preble Shawnee, TCN also fell to Franklin-Monroe in straight sets 25-11, 25-23, 25-6.

The Panthers (0-13, 0-7) were scheduled to host New Miami on Monday and travel to Dixie on Tuesday. They will host Newton on Thursday.

Twin Valley South fell to 3-13 overall and 2-5 in the WOAC with three losses last week.

In addition to its loss to National Trail, South dropped a non-league match to Valley View on Monday, 25-9, 25-10, 25-10 and on conference game to Mississinawa Valley 25-16, 25-9, 25-23 on Thursday.

South was scheduled to host Thurgood Marshall on Monday and play at Preble Shawnee on Tuesday. They will close out the week with a trip to Arcanum on Thursday.
