Brookville blanks Jacks for sixth win

OAKWOOD — Brookville spoiled homecoming for the Oakwood Lumberjacks with a solid total team victory over the Lumberjacks 35-0. The win moved Brookville to 6-1 on the season and 3-1 in the SWBL Buckeye Division. It also sets up a critical game with Eaton this week.

Walt Adams scored three touchdowns, kicked four extra points, and rushed for 123 yards in just eight carries, an average of 15.4 yards per tote. Adams was the overall leader by stats in the game but this game belonged to the Brookville offensive and defensive lines.

Brookville stopped Oakwood in the first series and after a punt promptly marched 64 yards in eight plays to take the lead. A pair of passes from Keegan Mehr to Kory Davis picked up yardage as did runs by Mehr and Jake Lenser.

Finally at the Lumberjack 11 Mehr tossed a pass to Walt Adams in the corner of the end zone for the game’s first score. Adams booted the PAT and Brookville led 7-0.

The Blue Devils moved 71 yards in four plays for their second touchdown in as many possessions. Mehr tossed a pass to Sam Fullenkamp for 11 yards; Mehr ran for 13 yards to the Lumberjack 47; Mehr then gained nine yards; and finally, Adams broke free up the middle and rambled 38 yards for a touchdown as the time ran out in the first period. The kick went wide but Brookville led 13-0.

Oakwood got a huge run from Johnell Wilson, Jr. to the Brookville two as Kory Davis made a touchdown saving tackle. A keeper by the quarterback was stopped short of the goal line.

An Oakwood player was called for a face mask and the ball went back to the 17. Three straight incomplete passes, mostly forced by defensive pressure, turned the ball back to the Blue Devils.

Brookville then moved 83 yards in 11 plays taking almost seven minutes off the clock. Walt Adams had a huge run of 45 yards in the series and later converted a fourth down with a seven-yard jaunt. Finally at the four Adams took the ball into the end zone.

Brookville went for two and Sam Fullenkamp snagged a pass from Mehr in the back of the end zone for a 21-0 lead.

Brookville scored on the first possession of the second half as Keegan Mehr broke three tackles during a scramble that resulted in a 15 yard touchdown play. It was now 28-0 with 8:35 left in the 3rd stanza.

The Devils then stopped Oakwood on a 4th down play at the Brookville 37.

Kory Davis broke off a 59 yard gallop to the Lumberjacks four-yard line. From there Adams scored again and the final score would be 35-0 Brookville.

Game note from Brookville football Historian Larry Myers show it was the 116th shutout by Brookville in Blue Devils history. It was the second time Brookville has won 35-0, the previous time was Madison two years ago. It was the 20th time a Brookville game has totaled 35 points and the second time to score 35 points in back-to-back games. The first time was in 2001.

Stats from Aaron Crabtree show Brookville dominating the stats with 267 yards rushing to 114; total yards 322 to 216; and first downs 16-10. Brookville two for four in 3rd downs and one for one in 4th downs. Oakwood was 3/12 in 3rd downs and 2/5 in fourth downs. Brookville was four for four in the red zone with four touchdowns, Oakwood was 0/2 losing the ball on downs twice.

Individual stats show Brookville’s Walt Adams with 123 yards rushing on eight carries and two touchdowns. Adams also had a touchdown reception in the game. Kory Davis garnered 75 yards in four totes and a TD. Keegan Mehr had 56 yards and a touchdown on seven lugs. Davis caught two passes for 31 yards.

Defensive stats show Adams had a team leading four tackles and one assist; Keegan Mehr, Xavier Stacy, and Jordan Meyers each had three tackles. Seth Hoover, Sam Fullenkamp, Jake Lenser, and Kory Davis each had a pair of stops.
