Oktoberfest, Fall Family Days to highlight weekend

WEST ALEXANDRIA & EATON — There will be plenty of fun and autumn activities this weekend, with both West Alexandria and Eaton hosting special event

The West Alexandria Celebration Committee’s Oktoberfest is slated for Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 14-15.

Oktoberfest runs from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday and 10:30 a.m.-6 p.m. on Sunday. The festival will kick off with a parade at 11 a.m. Saturday morning, followed by recognition of the West Alexandria Citizen of the Year during opening ceremonies. Oktoberfest Queen, first and second runners-up will also be crowned on Saturday, and Alpha Kappa Sorority will host its Seventh Annual Oktoberfest Miss and Mr. Pageant in Peace Park.

Oktoberfest will features lots of music, crafts, food, games, contests, a beer garden and more to delight festival goers of all ages.

Ethan Moles will perform from noon-2:30 on stage at the back of Peace Park, followed by Patrick Arnold from 3-6 p.m.

On Sunday, Flat Out will play from 1-4 p.m.

Fall Family Day in Eaton

Eaton Parks and Recreation is hosting Fall Family Day on Saturday, Oct. 14, at Seven Mile Park, beginning at 3 p.m. The evening will end with a family-friendly Halloween Movie Night presentation of “Monsters University.”

The first 150 children will get to pick out a free pumpkin and enjoy other activities. This free event will be highlighted by fun activities including a giant inflatable corn maze, a bungee trampoline, and axe throwing, as well as the barrel train ride, sack races, the pumpkin patch, and more.

Children can help Preble Arts paint a snowplow and prepare it for the holiday season, and at 4 p.m., The Flannels will take the stage to rock the park with live music until 5:30 p.m. There will be a K-9 demonstration at 5:45 p.m., and free face painting will be available from 4-6 p.m.

The movie will begin at dusk.

Families should bring their own lawn chairs/blankets for seating.

Concessions will be available for purchase from Fatty Daddy’z and Boiled Over Candy Company.
