Eaton drops Carlisle; Shawnee topples Dixie

EATON — Eaton scored twice in less than a minute late in the second quarter en route to a 17-7 regular season ending win at Carlisle on Friday, Oct. 20.

With the win, Eaton secured a home playoff game in the Division IV, Region 16 bracket.

Eaton quarterback Chris Atkins connected with Leslie Orr for a long touchdown pass with just under two minutes left in the second quarter to break a scoreless game. After a Jon Hewitt PAT, Eaton led 7-0.

Eaton’s defense then held the Indians, giving the ball back to its offense with just over a minute remaining in the half.

Atkins found a wide-open Brayden Deem for another long scoring strike for a 14-0 lead.

Carlisle made it 14-7 with 10:31 left in the game before Hewitt drilled a 40-yard field goal with 3:03 left to secure the win.

Atkins finished the game 180 yards passing. Deem had five catches for 78 yards and Orr caught four passes for 73 yards.

Cordis Berard led the ground game with 56 yards on 13 carries.

Eaton (8-2, 4-2 SWBL), the No. 8 seed, will host No. 9 Cin. Archbishop McNicholas on Friday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m. in the first round of the playoffs. This will be the third straight season the two teams have met in the postseason.

Shawnee rolls over Dixie, 51-7, qualifies for the playoffs

NEW LEBANON – Preble Shawnee raced out to a 48-0 halftime lead on its way to a 51-7 win at Dixie on Friday, Oct. 20.

With the win, Shawnee finishes the season 7-3 overall and 6-2 in the WOAC.

The Arrows also clinched a playoff berth and will travel to Milton-Union on Friday, Oct. 27. Shawnee is the No. 11 seed in Division V, Region 20. The Bulldogs are the No. 6 seed.

Trail falls at home to Tri-Village, 20-7

NEW PARIS – National Trail pushed once beaten Tri-Village to the brink but came up short, falling 20-7 in the regular season finale on Friday, Oct. 20.

Trail held a 7-6 halftime lead after a 1-yard touchdown run by Jamison Watts in the second quarter.

TV scored twice in the third on runs by Reed Wehr.

With the loss, Trail falls to 4-6 overall and 4-4 in the WOAC.

The two teams will meet again this Friday in the opening round of the Division VI, Region 24 playoffs. Trail is the No. 12 seed and will travel to New Madison to face the No. 5 seeded Patriots.
