Eaton’s boys, girls cross country teams qualify for regionals

CEDARVILLE — Eaton’s boys and girls cross country teams are headed back to the regionals.

Both teams placed seventh in their respective Division II races on Saturday, Oct. 21 at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course at Cedarville University.

The girls tallied 221 points to advance, while the boys scored 237.

Oakwood and Waynesville won district titles on the girls’ side, while Oakwood and Carroll were the boys district champions.

The top eight teams and 32 individuals qualified for the SW Regional meet to be held next weekend.

The regional meet will be held Saturday, Oct. 28 at Troy High School. The girls will run at 11:30 a.m. with the boys’ race scheduled to begin at 12:15 p.m.

The first race of the day will begin at 10 a.m. with Division III girls, followed by D-3 boys. The Division I races will begin at 1 p.m. with the girls, followed by the boys at 1:45 p.m.

Eaton was led by Emily Haynes, who finished 28th with a time of 21:09.80. She was followed by Addi Guiley, who was 45th in 22:06. Brynlee Hamilton was 52nd in 22:24.7, Cami McCloud was 53rd in 22:27.9, Elise Simmons was 58th in 22:42.7, Ali Davis was 78th in 23:53.6 and Josie Eilerman was 103rd in 25:07.8.

The boys’ team was led by Tanner Davis, who was 18th with a time of 17:14.9. He was followed by Jack Richardson (35th, 17:48.6), Nick Laycox (57th, 18:26.3), Bradley Gifford (58th, 18:26.4), Michael Fomin (69th, 18:44), Dylan Staley (81st, 18:55.9) and Gabe Smith (99th, 19:33.5).

The state tournament will be held Saturday, Nov. 5 at Memorial Park and Fortress Obetz.
