Pedestrian hit, killed in West Alex

WEST ALEXANDRIA — A Camden woman died after being struck by a vehicle in West Alexandria on Monday, Oct. 23.

The Preble County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the fatal traffic crash involving the pedestrian which occurred on Monday., according to a PCSO media release.

“Deputies and public safety crews were dispatched at approximately 8:12 p.m. to the first block of North Main Street (Ohio 503) where a vehicle had struck a pedestrian,” the release noted.

The preliminary investigation found a pedestrian was crossing North Main Street in the middle of the block and was struck by a northbound vehicle in the northbound lane driven by a 17-year-old Lewisburg resident, according to the release. The driver and a juvenile passenger were not injured in the crash.

The pedestrian, Mary Cooper, 70, of Camden, was transported to Kettering Preble ER in Eaton, where she died from her injuries.

West Alexandria Fire & EMS responded to the scene.

The crash remained under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and the Preble County Coroner’s Office at press time.
