Two die in weekend crash

MONROE TOWNSHIP — The Preble County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a two-vehicle, fatal crash which claimed the lives of two Dayton residents on Saturday, Nov. 25.

The crash occurred at approximately 4:52 p.m. on Saturday, at the intersection of Wikle Road and Monroe Central Road in Monroe Township.

According to a PCSO press release, a preliminary investigation found that a 16-year-old New Madison juvenile was operating a 2003 Ford F150 pick-up truck southbound on Monroe Central Road and failed to stop at a posted stop sign at the intersection. He struck a 2023 Nissan Rogue traveling westbound on Wikle Road, driven by Michael Wilt, 66, of Dayton, Lindsay Wilt, 36 and daughter of Michael Wilt, also of Dayton, was a passenger in the Nissan Rogue.

The impact caused the Nissan to come to rest on its top in a field on the southwest side of the intersection. Both Michael and Lindsay Wilt were pronounced dead at the scene.

The juvenile driver of the truck was treated at the scene by North Central EMS.

The roadway remained closed for nearly three hours while the investigation was conducted. North Central EMS, the Eldorado Fire Department and the West Manchester Fire Department responded to the scene.

The crash remained under investigation by the Preble County Sheriff’s Office and the Preble County Coroner’s Office at pres time.
