Eaton takes down Trail, 66-52

NEW PARIS — Eaton used a big second quarter and forced National Trail into 17 turnovers en route to a 66-52 season opening win in boys’ basketball on Friday, Dec. 1.

The Eagles outscored National Trail 26-16 in the second quarter to extend a 3-point first quarter lead to double digits by halftime.

Senior Ramy Ahmed led the Eagles with 27 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists. Conner Bach added 13 points and two steals, while Aaron Roger came off the bench to add 10 points and grab five rebounds and Christ Atkins chipped in eight points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

For Trail, Kellen Laird led the way with 22 points, six rebounds, four steals and four assists. Tayden Blevins and Tyler Lesh each scored seven and Nick Brubaker contributed six.

The Blazers held an 8-6 before Eaton closed out the first quarter on a 7-2 run to take the lead for good.

Eaton began the second quarter with a 14-5 run to extend its lead to 27-15 with 3:30 left in the first half.

In the third quarter, Eaton extended its lead to as many as 20 points (56-36).

Trail continued to battle well into the fourth quarter, cutting the Eagles led to 10 with just over a minute left and had a chance to get within single digits.

Eaton (1-0) was scheduled to host Talawanda on Tuesday, Dec. 5 and Brookville on Friday, Dec. 8 in the SWBL opener.

Trail bounced back on Saturday with a 42-32 win at New Miami.

Logan Smith led the way with 14 points and eight rebounds. Blevins added eight points and seven rebounds, while Laird contributed seven points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Lesh tossed in six and grabbed five rebounds.

Trail (1-1) was scheduled to host Brookville on Tuesday, Dec. 5 and play at Tri-County North on Friday, Dec. 8. They will complete their week with a trip to Miami Valley on Saturday.
