CLAYTON – After losing its first three games, the Northmont girls basketball won its second straight Wednesday night 61-48 over Miamisburg.

Northmont improved to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play while Miamisburg dropped to 1-3 and 0-3.

Brenna Williams paced the Lady Bolts attack with 21 points and Juliana Gunn had 13. Alley Haas led Miamisburg with 19.

The Lady Bolts led 11-9 after the first quarter and built a 26-17 halftime lead. Laynee Barrett hit a three-pointer, Amelia Brown, Gunn, and Brooklyn Byrd had two points each and Williams scored six in the second quarter.

Northmont held a 15 point advantage after three periods, but Miamisburg began to press and came up with three steals to pull within 10 points.

“I think we got nervous when they slapped on their press, which we literally talked about during the timeout,” said Northmont coach Maggie Neanen. “It took us a minute to calm down and relax, but once ‘we get it’ we are a really good basketball team. I am very proud of our girls.”

Williams scored to put the Lady Bolts up by 12 but Ally Turner buried a three-pointer to close the gap to nine.

Williams scored inside again and Gunn came up with a steal for Northmont and Ayla Rammel scored to boost the lead back to 12.

The Lady Bolts converted seven of eight shots from the foul line down the stretch to secure the 13 point win.

Jenna Hall did a good job defending Alley Haas, limiting her to eight points the entire second half.

Monday the Lady Bolts defeated Butler 37-30. Gunn and Williams had nine points each for Northmont while Lauren Dady led the Lady Aviators with 18.
