Venable named Eaton mayor

EATON — Eaton City Council has a new member and the city has a new Mayor.

During its Monday, Dec. 4, reorganization meeting, councilmen Jim Ball and David Kirsch took the oath of office to kick off their new terms on Eaton City Council.

Ball was elected, and Kirsch re-elected, in the Nov. 7, General Election. Preble County Probate Judge Jenifer Overmyer administered the oath and swore in the two councilmen prior to council’s business meeting.

As its first order of business, council then elected Matt Venable as the new mayor of the City of Eaton, and Venable conducted the remainder of the meeting.

Vice Mayor David Kirsch was elected by his peers to continue in that capacity.

In other business, council:

•Held the first reading of an ordinance amending the zoning of property at 121 E. Washington-Jackson Road, part outlot 202 from office/institutional to general commercial.

•Appointed Law Director Ryan Brunk council’s designee to attend public records training.

•Appointed several individuals to boards including: John Ott and Manfred Treitmaier, Planning, Zoning and Building; Chad Schaurer, Parks and Recreation Board; Travis Early, Civil Service Board; Bill Clayton, Tax Appeals Board; Venable, Planning, Zoning and Building Board; Brad Moore, Planning, Zoning and Building Appeals Board; Christopher Carr, Parks and Recreation Board; Moore and Kirsch, Volunteer Firemen Dependent Fund Board.

Council’s next regular meeting is Monday, Dec. 18, at 6 p.m.
