Girl wrestlers compete at Hammer & Anvil

CLAYTON – Northmont wrestling hosted a tri-meet Thursday, Dec. 7 with Brookville and Milton-Union. Matches included middle school, junior varsity, varsity, and girls wrestling.

All four Brookville girls competing won their respective matches.

105-pound Kenzie Lingle had a full 6-minute match and won by points. 135-pound Kylee Jones, 140-pound Rita Carey, and 145 -pound Lily Zimmerlin each won with a pin.

Hammer & Anvil

Brookville, Eaton, and Northmont girls went on to compete Saturday at the Hammer & Anvil Tournament in Mt. Orab.

Freshman Maycee Adams of Eaton placed 5th at 110 pounds after winning by a fall in 53 seconds over Al Malak of Delaware Hayes.

At 115 pounds, Brookville’s Molly Luebke took 1st place at Hammer & Anvil winning by a fall in 52 seconds over Josephine Eilerman of Eaton.

At 125 pounds Northmont’s Olivia Roussel won by a fall in 2:07 against Mary Fowler of Delaware Hayes.

At 130 Eaton’s Sarah Abner took 5th place by scoring a 17-1 technical fall over teammate Kyeleigh Gifford.

At 135 Kylee Jones of Brookville placed 5th by scoring a 6-0 decision over Northmont’s Macey McCargish.

In the 140 pound weight class, Brookville’s Rita Carey took 1st place winning by a fall in 1:09 against Janelle Donahue of Clermont Northeastern.

At 145 Caroline Klawon of Eaton placed 3rd winning by a fall in 3:08 against Jade Hartness of Bethel Tate while Lilly Zimmerlin of Brookville placed 5th winning by a fall in 4:21 over Nelease Danzy of Delaware Hayes.

In the 235 pound weight class Shelby Walker of Northmont took 3rd place winning by a fall in 2:34 over Ava Robertson of Waverly.

Eaton placed 4th overall with 111 points with Brookville 5th with 92 and Northmont 8th with 67 points in the 32 team field.

Women’s Ironman

Northmont’s Lacie Knick went on to place 2nd in the 125 pound weight class in the inaugural Women’s Ironman Wrestling Tournament at Walsh Jesuit on Dec. 9-10.

Knick lost a 9-4 decision in the championship match to international wrestler Victoria Carbonaro of Blair Academy.

Knick won her semifinal match 7-4 over the nation’s No. 7 ranked Angelina Cassioppi of Hononegah High School (Rockton, Illinois).

In the quarterfinals Knick won by a fall in 28 seconds over Alexia Beadle of Spire Academy.

Knick’s scoring placed Northmont 22nd out of 61 teams at Ironman.

At Northmont, the Brookville boys wrestling team scored a 54-20 victory over Milton-Union while Northmont defeated the Bulldogs 59-6. Northmont went on to defeat Brookville 42-36.
