CAMDEN — Preble Shawnee left little double about the how outcome of its game with visiting Arcanum was going to turn out.

The Arrows raced out an 18-0 lead five minutes in and were never threatened as they cruised to a 67-23 win on Fridy, Dec. 15.

“Anytime you can get off to a start like that, we preach, getting off to a good start because when you have energy everything’s going well. It helps a lot throughout the game, and we just were able to get out to a great start offensively and defensively,” Shawnee coach Jake Turner said.

“We thought we did a heck of a job sharing the basketball and that’s been my big thing here in the last couple of weeks. I haven’t been happy with the lack of sharing. That’s what we have to do and we got guys step up and making shots now. It’s not just one guy that can score, it now it’s five guys on the court that are threat to score it and make a shot and make a play. When you have five guys on the court it just makes things a lot easier.”

Shawnee extended its lead to 36-3 with just over five minutes left in the first half and Turner said it was his team’s defense which provide the spark

“We got turnovers; we got going in transition. Got some easy layups, got some good looks on threes. We knocked them down. We knocked down some shots early. That’s huge,” Turner said. “I thought shots we were taking were good looks and that comes back to sharing the basketball. I called them out the other day on it and said, we got to be better. I was disappointed. I really was a week and a half ago and tonight was what I expect. If we can continue to improve and share the ball everybody’s getting better high percentage shots and that’s what we want at the end of the day.”

Junior Isaac Blankenship had the hot hand in the first quarter, scoring 13 of his 15 points.

And when the Arrows took a 21-3 lead, neither of the team’s top two scorers – Mason Shrout and Logan Hawley – had scored a point.

Shrout finished with a team-high 16 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

Hawley added nine points, including a pair of two-hand dunks, and pulled down nine rebounds.

Brody Morton contributed eight points and three rebounds, while Brayden Robinette tossed in seven points to go along with five assists, four rebounds and four steals.

The Arrows led 42-8 at the break and the second half was played with a running clock as Shawnee pushed its lead to 58-13 after three quarters.

Shawnee (4-0, 2-0 WOAC) was scheduled to visit Franklin-Monroe on Tuesday, Dec. 19 and will host National Trail on Friday, Dec. 22.
