EATON — The few first weeks of the season have been busy for Eaton’s swim team.

The Eagles have competed in six meets already this young season and coach Kajsa Ruebush is looking forward to what the rest of the season holds.

Eaton began the season on Saturday, Dec. 2 without several of its club swimmers.

The Eagles hosted St. Henry, Greenville, Edgewood, and Preble Shawnee.

“We started the season without our club swimmers and performed very well,” Ruebush said.

Eaton’s girls finished second and Shawnee girls finished fifth. Eaton’s boys finished first and combined the team placed first overall.

Eaton followed that performance with a meet on Dec. 6 at Trotwood against 12 other teams.

The boys placed third and girls placed first and combined the Eagles placed second overall.

On Saturday, Dec. 16, Eaton hosted Dayton Oakwood, Ross, Arcanum, Ansonia, Franklin Monroe, and Preble Shawnee.

“We invited these tough competitors to challenge our swimmers and a challenge it was,” Ruebush said.

The girls started off the meet with the 200-medley relay of Maddie Peace, Brianna Rowland, Rachel Honaker, Emma Pierce, placing second in a close race.

The 100 fly was the race to watch as state swimmer, Eagle Austin Peace, raced against his club teammate from Ross, Cooper Burt.

“Both had an amazing race with Cooper Burt taking first with a 53.91 and Austin Peace a close finish with a 55.76,” Ruebush said.

Ruebush said there were plenty of highlights from the meet.

“We had many swims that were quite close and exciting to watch, one of which was the 50 free with sophomore Ethan Gregory. He took third with 24.34 to Truman Brun from Dayton Oakwood 22.62, and Conner Bennett of Ross 23.48. Our distance swimmers Rachel Honaker and Jackson Chapin both had amazing races by placing first in the 500 free with a 6:35.63 and 5:35.86 respectively. Jackson Chapin also went on to place first in the 100 backstroke with a 1:01.59 and freshman Maddie Peace placed second in the backstroke with a 1:09.20. Our breastrokers also did well in their races with Brianna Rowland placing second with a 1:27.41 and Austin Peace placing third with 1:01.59. Eaton finished the whole meet with a solid third place finish.”

On Sunday, Dec. 17, Eaton competed at Bethel.

The boys medley relay (Jackson Chapin, Gabe Smith, Austin Peace, and Ethan Gregory) started off the meet with a first place finish with a 1:49.66.

“We had many 1st place finishes including Jackson Chapin in the 200 free with 2:02.78, Rachel Honaker in the 200 IM with a 2:43.24, Ethan Gregory in the 50 free with a 24.1, Austin Peace in the 100 fly with 56.05 and 100 breast with 1:03.93, and the boys 200 free relay (Ethan Gregory, Jackson Chapin, Gabe Smith and Austin Peace) with a 1:39.21.”

Eaton was scheduled to travel to Oxford for the Brave Invite at Miami University.

“We are looking forward to what the rest of the season brings,” Ruebush said.
