Shawnee knocks off North, Madison to remain unbeaten

PREBLE COUNTY — Preble Shawnee’s boys basketball team battled through injuries to key players over the weekend and still came away with a pair of wins to keep their undefeated season alive.

Shawnee moved to 10-0 overall and 5-0 in the Western Ohio Athletic Conference with a 66-34 win at Tri-County North on Friday, Jan. 5 and a 53-47 win over Middletown Madison on Saturday, Jan. 6.

On Friday, the Arrows, without leading scorer Mason Shrout and only having second leading scorer Logan Hawley for one quarter, still rolled to a convincing win over the host Panthers.

Four players scored in double figures as Shawnee led at the end of each quarter, 18-5, 41-18 and 54-27.

Isaac Blankenship paced the Arrows with 17 points. Knox Mills tossed in 11, while Brayden Robinette and Brody Morton each had 10.

Shrout returned to the lineup on Saturday and helped the Arrows overcame a fourth-quarter deficit to knock off the Mohawks.

Shrout finished with 21 points, 16 in the second half. Morton finished with 13, Robinette added 10 and Blankenship contributed nine.

Shawnee was scheduled to travel to Hamilton Ross on Tuesday, Jan. 9 and will host Bradford on Friday, Jan. 12.

North (1-9, 0-5 WOAC) is scheduled to play at Franklin-Monroe on Friday, Jan. 12 and at Emmanuel Christian Academy on Saturday, Jan. 13.

Eaton shuts down Greenville, falls at Bellbrook

EATON — Eaton kept its record at the .500 mark with a split of its weekend games.

The Eagles capped off the weekend with a 53-36 win over visiting Greenville on Saturday, Jan. 6. Ramy Ahmed led the way with 23 points, scoring 12 in the first half and 11 more in the second half.

Eaton led 9-4 after one and was up 23-16 at the break. The Eagles used a 15-4 run in the third to take a 38-26 lead into the fourth quarter. Eaton led by as many as 21 in the fourth.

Conner Bach added 11 points and Aaron Rogers tossed in eight.

On Friday, Eaton saw Bellbrook drain 12 3-pointers en route to a 67-49 win.

Eaton trailed just 47-44 heading into the final frame, but Bellbrook knocked down four 3-pointers to break the game open.

Ahmed led the Eaton with 20 points and Rogers added 10. Bach finished with eight.

Eaton (5-5, 1-3 SWBL) was scheduled to host Waynesville on Tuesday, Jan. 9, Middletown Madison on Friday, Jan. 12 and Edgewood on Saturday, Jan. 13.

Trail upends TVS, 33-30

WEST ALEXANDRIA — National Trail jumped out to an 11-4 lead over host Twin Valley South then held on at the end for a 33-30 win on Friday, Jan. 5.

Kellen Laird led the Blazers with 13 points, while Logan Smith tossed in nine.

For South, Chandler Ulrich and Jace Thuma each scored nine and Griffen Roell added eight.

Trail extended its lead to 21-10 at the half. South cut into the lead getting within 23-18 by the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth, South closed to within one on a couple of occasions but couldn’t get over the hump.

Trail (5-7, 3-2 WOAC) is scheduled to host Arcanum on Friday, Jan. 12.

South (3-6, 2-3) was scheduled to play at Dayton Christian on Tuesday, Jan. 9. They will travel to Mississinawa Valley on Friday, Jan. 12 and to Brookville on Saturday, Jan. 13.
