COLUMBUS — The Ohio House of Representatives on Wednesday, Jan. 10, voted to override Governor DeWine’s recent veto of House Bill 68, State Rep. Rodney Creech, of West Alexandria, announced Wednesday evening.

“Today, I voted ‘yes’ override the Governor’s veto of the SAFE Act and Save Women’s Sports Act. I’m proud to have stood with my colleagues once again for the sake of our children and the integrity of women’s sports. I look forward to this critical legislation becoming law in Ohio,” Creech said.

The veto override now heads to the Ohio Senate for consideration.

The Ohio Save Women’s Sports Act is a measure that would ensure no school, interscholastic conference, or organization which regulates interscholastic athletics can allow biological males to compete in women’s sports. The measure also includes provisions which provide protections for students, schools and colleges, as well as a dispute resolution process. The Save Women’s Sports Act was added as a floor amendment to Senate Bill 187, which allows college athletes to earn compensation for their name, image, and likeness.

The Saving Ohio Adolescents from Experimentation (SAFE) Act deals with gender transition services for minors stipulating, “When allocating parental rights and responsibilities or parenting time, no court shall deny or limit a parent’s parental rights and responsibilities or parenting time based on the parent’s decision to do any of the following: (A) Refer to and raise the child in a manner consistent with the child’s biological sex; (B) Decline to consent to the child receiving gender transition services as defined in section 3129.01 of the Revised Code; (C) Decline to consent to the child receiving counseling or other mental health services for the purpose of affirming the child’s perception of the child’s gender or sex, if the child’s perception is inconsistent with the child’s biological sex.”

DeWine announced his veto of House Bill 68 on Friday, Jan. 5.
