CAMDEN — It would have been easy for Preble Shawnee’s boys’ basketball team to look past their two opponents this past weekend with a huge game looming this week.

But the Arrows, who celebrated their three seniors (Mason Shrout, Logan Hawley and Case Roell) stayed focused on the task at hand during their final homestand of the season as they cruised by Mississinawa Valley (84-22) and county rival Eaton (78-53) on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 9-10.

For Shawnee (18-3, 10-0 WOAC), the win over Mississinawa Valley sets up a showdown at Tri-Village (20-1) on Friday, Feb. 16 for the Western Ohio Athletic Conference title.

“We came out from the get-go ready to go with a lot of energy. Our job was just to take care of business and I felt like we did,” Preble Shawnee coach Jake Turner said.

Another key milestone was hit for Shrout during the weekend as he entered the top 30 among the state’s all-time leading scorers.

He finished with 24 points on Friday on 10-of-12 shooting then dropped 38 points on 13-of-16 shooting against Eaton.

As a team Shawnee had 47 assists over the two-game span.

“You just go down the box score seeing the different points, stuff like that. That’s what we’ve been preaching and that’s what we want to be about,” Turner said. “So, I’m glad to see that tonight.”

Against MV, the Arrows raced out to 20-0 lead while forcing the Blackhawks into 10 turnovers on their first 10 possessions.

Hawley finished with 13 points and five rebounds. Brayden Robinette added 10 points and three assists. Brody Morton added four points, including a dunk, and grabbed seven rebounds to go along with three assists.

Isaac Blakenship tossed in nine and had four assists and three steals.

Against Eaton, Shawnee led 24-16 after the first quarter before exploding for 30 second quarter points to take a 54-27 halftime lead. Shrout scored 31 of his points in the first half.

Blankenship went 6-of-10 from the field to score 17 points. Hawley added eight points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

“I thought we played really well,” Turner said of the win over Eaton. “We made shots, made plays, we shared the basketball. I was very pleased with the first three quarters, very pleased. There’s not a whole lot to say besides we played really well tonight.”

Turner said he was glad to see the seniors go out with a pair of home wins.

“These seniors mean a whole lot to one, me, but also to this program, and this community,” Turner said. “They’re great role models on and off the court. They’re great students. They’re great young man with bright futures. I’m going to miss them. They mean a whole lot to me and this program, and we wouldn’t be where we are right now without them.”

Turner said his team is now focused on its trip to Tri-Village.

“We took care of business. We got a big one next Friday,” he said. “Obviously, it’s going to be a great atmosphere. Anytime you’re playing your last game, conference game, and you get a chance to play for title that’s what you want to do. So, we got that opportunity. It’s not going to be easy. It’s going to be tough. It’s going to be a really good game, both teams are really good. This is why you play high school sports. These are the games you want to play in and the opportunities you want to have and we’re going to have that opportunity.”
