EATON — The State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating a house fire in the 4200 block of Washington-Jackson Road which left one person hospitalized last week.

According to City of Eaton Fire/EMS Chief Andy Bekemeier, at 6:26 a.m. Thursday, March 7, Preble County Sheriff’s dispatch received multiple calls regarding “a fully involved structure fire with one to two occupants trapped.”

“I immediately called for mutual aid for water and manpower from Eldorado, West Manchester, New Paris , and Gasper Township,” Bekemeier reported. “Once I arrived on scene I confirmed that we had one occupant trapped and got an approximate location for the crew entering the building to perform a search. The occupant was quickly located and removed within 5 minutes of my on-scene time,” he said.

The fire was quickly controlled and the individual was transported to Kettering Health Preble where they were stabilized and transferred to Miami Valley Hospital, according to Bekemeier, who at press time said the person’s condition was currently unknown.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is being handled by the State Fire Marshal’s office, Bekemeier said.
