TVS softball loses conference opener

WEST ALEXANDRIA — In its first conference game of the season the Twin Valley South softball team suffered a 13-1 loss to Franklin Monroe.

The Jets took a 1-0 first inning lead when Layni Ressler hit a lead off triple and scored on an error when the ball was thrown back to the infield.

An error enabled Lila Davis to reach first base in the top of the second inning. Davis advanced to second on a ground out by Alivia Addis. Jozlynn Wintrow reached base on a fielding error that also allowed Davis to score.

Franklin Monroe added three runs in the top of the third. Olivia Sease was hit by a pitch and scored on a double by Faith Wintrow. Davis reached base on an error that allowed Wintrow to score.

Addis singled to center with Davis advancing to second. J. Wintrow followed with a single to score Davis boosting the lead to 5-0.

The Jets added four runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. Twin Valley South scored its only run in the bottom of the fifth when Kelsie Maggard drew a walk, stole second and scored on a single by Abby Crouse.

Faith Wintrow led Franklin Monroe by going three for four with two home runs – one in the fourth and one in the fifth inning, a double, scored three times and had seven RBI.

Keihl Johnson earned the victory pitching all five innings, scattering three hits, allowing one run, with five strike outs and two walks.

Hannah Thorpe took the loss pitching three innings, surrendering six hits, five runs (two earned), with one strike out.

With the victory Franklin Monroe improved to 1-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Twin Valley South fell to 1-2 and 0-1.
