MIDDLETOWN — Eaton’s softball team recorded its second shutout of the season in claiming a 6-0 win over host Middletown Madison on Monday, April 1.

Junior pitcher Meredith Pieratt tossed a complete game, allowing six hits and striking out 12 as the Eagles improved to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the Southwestern Buckeye League Buckeye Division.

“I’m proud of the way we came out with energy on defense and at the plate,” Eaton coach Maggie Neanen said. “We need to be a little more patient in some of our at bats but for the most part we played a good game.”

Eaton scored single runs in the first, second and third to take a 3-0 lead. In the sixth, the Eagles put the game away, scoring three times.

Collectively, Ella Statzer, Madison Copper, Gracie Copper and Pieratt had nine of the Eagles 10 hits.

Statzer, a freshman, was 2-for-4 with a triple, home run and three RBI. Madison Copper, a sophomore, was 3-for-4 with a double and home run.

Gracie Copper, a senior, added two hits, while Pieratt also collected two hits. Julie Schrimper had the other hit and drove in a run.

Eaton was scheduled to host Arcnaum on Friday, April 5 and are scheduled to travel to St. Henry on Saturday, April 6 for a doubleheader.

The Eagles will have a key SWBL clash on Tuesday, April 9 when they are scheduled to travel to Brookville. The Blue Devils are currently 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the league.
